Great Dublin Bike Ride 2016

Intro

Following the success of delivering the inaugural Great Dublin Bike Ride in 2015, TITAN were appointed in 2016 as the preferred Operations, Marketing and PR agency by Sport Ireland and Cycling Ireland for the 2nd Great Dublin Bike Ride.


Challenges

  1. To create a sustainable mass participation event
  2. To recruit in excess of 5,000 cyclists for the event
  3. To generate awareness of the Great Dublin Bike Ride amongst the public through PR and media partners
  4. To build and grow the already engaged GDBR social community from year one through dedicated event Facebook and Twitter accounts whilst appealing to those new to the sport of cycling

  6. To ensure all participants felt they were part of something safe, enjoyable and well organised
  7. To develop a new start system on the North Quays and Smithfield that would ensure public transport services were maintained sporadically and without compromising participant safety

THE RESULTS

  • Recruited over 5,100 cyclists
  • Overwhelmingly positive reaction from client, stakeholders and participants alike (see survey results)
  • National and regional print, online and broadcast (TV) coverage to the value of €225K reached
  • Commitments made to key stakeholders were honoured e.g all cyclists had departed Smithfield and North Quays as per agreed timeframe
  • A Great Dublin Bike Ride community of over 10,800 fans on Facebook and 1,500 followers on Twitter was developed and the community engaged with ongoing content, updates and competitions
  • A post event participant survey was also issued which received 2,528 responses

Topline Survey Findings

  1. 90% thought the GDBR experience was “excellent” or “very good”
  2. 92% thought it was “extremely or very organised”
  3. 97% thought the volunteers/Gardai were “extremely helpful” or “very helpful”
  4. 82% thought the route was “extremely safe” or “very safe”
  5. 78% would “extremely likely or likely” recommend the event to a friend or colleague?
